Gene DeSmidt….Chapter 2
Its been over 15 years since I have updated my biography. Doing so reminds me that not only am I a serious and seasoned pro but that I am still just a beginner….and thankfully so!
After the collapse of the economy in 2009 I had noticed that many of my fellow contractors and builders had either retired or changed their vocations. I managed to claw and scrape through those years with many a smaller project but also with an occasional major monumental masterpiece.
The shop has evolved to a live/work loft in Industrial Oakland. Creativity above: designing, songwriting and photography. Below: the Woodworking shop. I even get to pop some corn and barbecue occasionally.
I can still say that I have completed every single job I have started ...although a few were under difficult circumstances. That is a testimony either to my mindless perseverance or my personal morality of never quitting 'till the job is done'. Along the way I have had the great joy of making many new acquaintances, creating singular and satisfying environments and still remaining inspired and optimistic.
